Just Enough

The message was linked with Holy Communion. So Hubby and I decided to have it during our cell group meeting. I borrowed the small cups and grabbed what I felt was enough. It was an odd number. "Would it be enough" I wondered.

At the end of a good time of sharing, we concluded with the breaking of bread and drinking the cup. Bread was chapatti, home made by the host of the house. Lovely unleavened bread! The grape juice we bought was rich and unadulterated. Many commented how nice it tasted. No additives, not even sugar.

The cups.... There were just enough. In fact, they were exactly enough. The Lord knew.
And I felt especially glad that I heard right and got the exact number. Thankful!

Just A Phone Call Away

I received a phone call today. It was most unexpected. I had not heard from this person for a long time.

The call was from a full-time worker friend. He had a moment to spare and thought to phone me. He had heard about what I was now doing and wanted to hear "from the horse's mouth".

"Was it true?" "What happened?" "When?" "Give me more details."

Being a reasonably good friend, I divulged some answers.

It made me think though. We get too busy sometimes to even make a phone call. That is bad. We should never be too busy to spend time with people. Jesus never did. Drop a line. Send an email. Type out an sms. These things don't take much time.

Memo to self.

As for my friend, we made an appointment to meet up, albeit over an important event. It was good to chat.

Fellowship with the Saints

There is something about the gathering of the saints.
We love having guests round. This is my Hubby's men's IDT group and their families. (IDT = Intentional Discipleship Training, and yes, we ARE trained. Memory verses included!)

When 100 Youths Get Together

I TOLD my Hubby and children that I we could have a simple open house. Just for a few hours. No main meal times, i.e. only mid morn or mid afternoon.

But no, before I could blink, we ended up with a fullscale dinner - barbeque with an initially unknown number of guests attending! Right up till the day, the hour, we didn't know how many to expect.

Worse, to my horror, it had been put into Facebook! I had visions of multitudes invading my home! I had read enough horror stories about that! Needless to say, I told my family that I was concerned (read upset)

But that same day, as we sat in the Sunday Service, I was reminded of how every opportunity should be used to reach out. I repented and told my family that I had the wrong attitude and that we would be more open and all-embracing! Then we rolled up our sleeves and got down to preparations. Lots of it!
The barbeque pit

In the end one hundred youths came.

That's twenty-five youths for each one of my children (foster son included).

I know how many because I had to give out that many ang-pows!

They were ex-classmates, local church friends, down-the-road friends, different church friends, and even a couple who were new friends.

They came, they sang, they chatted, they laughed (softly and huge guffaws), they danced (to a game), they ate, they drank (no hard stuff) , they enjoyed the fireworks (of the neighbours), they made a lot of noise and mess.

But we had a great time.

We are also amazed that the food was enough, with surplus! Hubby prayed that the food will multiply when we saw that we had double the expected number for dinner! (My household help deserves a medal! And I had a good workout walking and clearing and tidying up during and after)

The last ones didn't leave till after midnight. That is, if you don't include the ones who stayed over. That was about half a dozen, half of whom didn't get to sleep till close to dawn...

Many new relationships made, many old ones strengthened. Now we need to continue to reach out... and possibly, we need to appease our neighbours too!

Communion

For the past few weeks, I have been attending the Sunday services at a local church which meets in a hotel. Unusual, isn't it. I'll tell you more about it in my later posts.

In the meantime, just for today, here's what we had for our Sunday service. Yes, we had Communion this morning. A simple yet symbolic event which reminds me of the grace and love of the Lord for you and I.

As far as I can recall, this might be the first time that I have had this with this part of the body of Christ.

Somehow, the symbols of bread and wine tasted different. Sweeter? More substantial? I am not fully sure yet.

But one thing certain is that now, for a season, I will be staying with this group of believers to help in whatever way I am able to.

Because we believe this is what I am supposed to do for now.

By the way, Hubby is feeling much better. I am fighting the bug fairly well I reckon!
