Special Message from a Special Person

A series of amazing events led to Arrow #3 and I making a special trip to see this special person. His message was simple but came from a life fraught with challenges. What an inspiration!
Born limbless, he says there are no limits. His faith in God was what keeps him going and he has such hope! Wow! A privilege to have seen him closeup indeed.

Rice

So it's rice.

But it's not any rice.

It was hand carried to my house. And I know the person who planted, nurtured and harvested it.
A lovely, gentle and prayerful woman.
A woman who speaks softly but prays with immense authority.
A woman who chuckles gently, and who chides gently.
A woman whose smile lights up her face and those of people around her.
A woman who knows how to listen and yet speak when needed.
A woman who is able to stand her ground and encourages others to do likewise.

Thank you, SB. It was such a blessing and pleasure to have spent time with you. It was too short and I hope to see you again sometime soon.

Heroes

Yesterday, for Fathers Day, the topic was Heroes.

I am reminded of one such hero.

Both he and his wife are in their eighties. They were missionaries to Borneo. Now "retired". For as long as I have known them, they have inspired, counseled, trained, admonished, encouraged, and prodded Christians of all ages, backgrounds and cultures.

When we visited them last week, it was humbling and inspiring to see that the fire had not diminished. Once again he had much to share - thoughts to challenge, values to examine and views to change.
For all I know, this might be the last time I see his wife on this side of heaven as she is rather frail and at times her mind wanders and she gets confused. Her battle with Parkinsons' is ongoing.

Her husband, dear man, remains as sprightly and inspiring as ever. It was a delight to spend an hour at his feet. He hopes to visit us yet, when his wife has "changed address" as he puts it.

They are some of my Heroes.

Entering God's Joy of Rest

Taken from Daily Express

Sipitang:
Datuk Arun Selutan (pic), the first Lundayeh in Sabah to be bestowed the title "Datuk", was laid to rest in his village of Kampung Mendulong, about 25km from the township here.

Arun, 67, who was the Deputy President of the Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Sabah, died last Saturday of illness. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Born in 1941, he became the first Lundayeh in the State to be bestowed with the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which carries the title "Datuk" in 1993.

Arun served as the SIB Sabah President for 14 years from 1981 and also as President of the Sabah Council of Churches for two years from 1995.

I worked with this gentle, humble man of God. He went through a lot in the short time I worked with him, but I never ever heard him complain. I shall miss him. But he is in a better place. I can hear the Lord tell him, "Well done, good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your Lord".

A Follow On From Yesterday

Just as I posted about Heroes yesterday, I saw this in the news. The church building where footballer Kaka was married had an accident - the roof fell in. Estimates of injuries seem to vary.

Much prayer fodder.

The antithesis of this post and the one before would be this man's public decline.

Celebrities!!!??

There is someone I "met" on the net.

I have never met him in person, but he seems to know a few people I am acquainted with.

I "met" him because he blogs.

And he goes by the name of Blogpastor.
You guessed it. He is a pastor who blogs.

His recent post is good.

He talks about celebrities. I call them heroes. We all need heroes. I don't mean that we should put human beings on pedestals and worship them or idolize them. That's what happens when Hollywood and Bollywood take over our lives and values. Then we imbibe their standards and ways of life, and when things don't work out, they fall apart, and we along with them.

No, I mean people with much more substance.

I mean people like my friends who lost their toddler and yet thought of others who could benefit from her death.

I mean people who like the ones Blogpastor has mentioned, can make an influence, but their character comes first before their success.

Like the preacher said on Sunday, there was preparation in secret for these people. When the time came to show forth gold, they shone brightly.
